Battery Storage Bylaw Postponed After Ruling Limits Changes
Key Points
- Battery Energy Storage (BESS) bylaw indefinitely postponed
- Proposed amendment ruled "outside the scope" of the warrant article
- Town intends to return with a revised bylaw at a future meeting
Annual Town Meeting indefinitely postponed Article 18, a proposed zoning amendment to regulate Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The Select Board and Planning Board both recommended the postponement after a technical ruling from the Moderator narrowed the possibilities for the debate.
Select Board Vice Chair Amy McNab explained that the town had hoped to expand the proposed overlay district town-wide via amendment, but the Moderator ruled that such a change was outside the scope
of the original warrant article. The town plans to bring a revised, more comprehensive bylaw to a future town meeting.
Motion: To indefinitely postpone.
Vote: Passed 162-12
